Affiliated Club

Welcome to BCARC.

We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization promoting amateur radio, providing communications and serving the interests of communities in Bonner County Idaho.

Thank you for visiting the site of one of the oldest amateur radio clubs in Northern Idaho. Your “All mode, all band” family friendly club since 1961!

BCARC Joins North Idaho Repeater Group

Our Hoo Doo repeater is now linked 24/7 to the NIRG repeater on Blossom Peak.  This now gives us coverage into much of Kootenai, Shoshone, Benewah and Bonner counties of Idaho as well as parts of Spokane and Pend Oreille counties of Washington.  The Blossom Peak site also has Echolink and IRLP access to link with sites and talkgroups around the globe.  When traveling you can also connect through a site where you are at back to Blossom Peak to talk to family and friends back home.  More info about this linked system can be found at the North Idaho Repeater Group website.

BCARC Nets

BCARC Club Nets are held every Sunday evening on-the-air at 7:00 PM local time on the North Idaho Repeater Group linked repeater system. Following the net we hold a simplex radio tree net to try and form a simplex network to communicate across Bonner County in the event that the Repeaters go down. this net is held on 146.52

BCARC Meeting

The BCARC club general meeting is held the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM local time. Meeting location is at the VFW Hall, 1325 Pine St, corner of Pine and Division.  (anyone interested in attending a club meeting should contact the Club to ensure the meeting has not been moved outside or to zoom)

Click here for Google map to meeting location.

Amateur License Testing

BCARC does not currently host a sponsored VE team.  Bonner County ARES is hosting VE Test Sessions every other month.  Click HERE for more details.  The KARS club in Hayden ID tests every month before their regular club meeting. You can go to their club web site for directions and times. A schedule is listed at the bottom of their page.  The overall area has a couple of active VE groups that test fairly often. For dates and other exam info go to the links listed below to search for scheduled exams in your area.

For the exam you will need to have photo id such as a drivers license or school id card and also know your SSN for the license paperwork. You can bring a simple calculator (no programmable memories) if you need it. The VE team will furnish pens and blank paper for calculations if you need it. No cell phones or other electronics allowed while taking the test.

If you pass the Technician level exam, you can then also take the General level exam at no additional cost. I would recommend trying for the General level even if you haven’t studied for it, you might surprise yourself and pass!
